Fellow Patriot,
We urgently need your help.
House Bill 544 is a dangerous piece of legislation that would expand the already flawed NICS Gun Ban Registry by funneling the names of tens of thousands of Texans into the registry.
This bill (like HB 2780 & SB 728 that we’ve emailed you about before) puts Texas one step closer to implementing Joe Biden’s goal of Universal Gun Registration.
Our mission at Texas Gun Rights is to protect your right to bear arms, and we need you to join us in fighting against HB 544.
HB 544 (and other NICS Gun Ban Registry Expansion bills) are often sold as “keeping guns out of the hands of bad people.”
If that were the case, we wouldn’t be opposed to it.
But the reality is the NICS Gun Ban Registry is already known to have an alarmingly high false-positive rate of nearly 95%, which means that nearly 95% of firearm purchase denials are wrongly denied.
Many of these law-abiding citizens are denied their right to purchase firearms simply because their name is similar to a prohibited person — and then the burden is on THEM to prove they are legal to purchase a firearm…which is a daunting task.
This is just one of the many reasons we firmly believe that the NICS Gun Ban Registry should be abolished, not expanded.
That’s why we’re asking you to act today and help us oppose HB 544.
Here’s what you can do:
- Click the link above or fill out the form at the bottom of this page to email your elected officials, encouraging them to OPPOSE HB 544 and any other NICS Gun Ban Registry Expansion.
- Call the Calendars Committee Chair, Rep. Dustin Burrow at (512) 463-0542: Pick up the phone and respectfully urge him to oppose HB 544 and to NOT schedule HB 544 for consideration on the House floor. Every call counts!
- Donate to Texas Gun Rights: Your generous donation will help us continue our fight against dangerous legislation like HB 544. By supporting Texas Gun Rights, you’re ensuring we can continue working tirelessly to protect your right to bear arms.
This bill has already been voted out of the House Select Committee on Community Safety with bi-partisan support.
Now, it is one step away from the House floor for a vote by the Texas House of Representatives.
That’s why it is important you act on the items above RIGHT AWAY.
Together, we can make a difference and defeat HB 544.
Thank you for your continued support.
For Texas and Liberty,
Chris McNutt
